Was the night it begun
The evening was full of sobs
As my hand hovered over the doorknob
The smell seeped in
That putrid scent, that cut right to the skin
I’ll never forget the sight
Of this horror borne of night
Even with a mask full of flowers
I stood, accessed, then shivered
I shook my head and closed the door
Then nodded to let the fire soar
